Frodo

Frodo the hobbit was born in the year 2968 of the Third Age; he was the son of Drogo Baggins and Primula Brandybuck. His parents died in a boating accident when he was young, so he was adopted by his uncle Bilbo Baggins of Bag End in Hobbiton. Frodo was unlike most hobbits for he was extremely adventurous and remarkably learned.
Bilbo mysteriously disappeared one day, leaving Frodo to inherit all his possesions, including Bag End and a magical ring. Gandalf the Grey, a wizard of the five Istari, soon discovered that this heirloom was in fact the One Ring of Sauron, the Dark Lord. He sent Frodo on a quest to take the Ring to the Elven haven Rivendell, where the Fellowship of the Ring was later formed. In this Fellowship - whose task it was to destroy the Ring by taking it to Mordor - he was joined by his servant Samwise Gamgee, two of his kin, Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took, Gandalf, Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf and two Men: Boromir, son of the Steward of Gondor, and Aragorn, heir to the throne of Gondor.
Frodo and his companions endured many perils, losing Gandalf in the Mines of Moria. After leaving Lothlorien, realm of the Lady Galadriel, the Fellowship sailed down the Great River Anduin, stopping at Amon Hen. It was here that the Fellwship split. Frodo and Sam continued to Mordor alone. First they crossed Emyn Muil, where they encountered the creature Gollum. Gollum led them to Morannon, the Black Gate of Mordor. He then led them through Ithilien, a place that was in the realm of Gondor. Here, Frodo and Sam met Faramir, the brother of Boromir who had been slain at Amon Hen. But he, doscovering their task, let them fo free.
Gollum took the two to the Morgul Vale, where was Minas Morgul, home of the Witchking. They climbed the Winding and Straight Stair, until they entered a tunnel. This tunnel was called Cirith Ungol, for it was the lair of Shelob the spider. Frodo was stung by Shelob, while Sam fought her, eventually winning. But he, believing Frodo to be dead, took the One Ring. But it turned out his master had not perished, and was taken to the Orc tower.
Eventually, Sam rescued Frodo from the Orcs, and they began across the plains of Gorgoroth in Mordor. At last they reached Mount Doom and the task was achieved with the destruction of the Ring and the downfall of Sauron and Mordor.
After the coronation of Elessar (Aragorn), Frodo returned with Sam, Merry and Pippin, to the Shire, but found it very different to when they left; it had been taken over by the evil wizard Saruman. After more great battles, it was won back, and Frodo moved again into Bag End.
But soon the trauma both his mind and body had suffered began to show, and four years after returning, Frodo embarked upon his last journey. He boarded a ship in the Grey Havens, along with Bilbo, Gandalf, Galadriel and Elrond, and he left Middle-earth forever, sailing into Undying Lands in the West.
In the films, Frodo is played by Elijah Wood.
